A couple of tips to keep your computer safe and free of viruses.
- Run an anti-virus software and make sure it’s updated. I have had pretty good luck with Clamwin, a free open source anti-virus. There are a lot of choice out there for anti-virus software and any one of the recognizable ones will offer some protection. However, an anti-virus is only as good as it’s virus definitions so make sure you keep them updated.
- Download and install Windows updates. You should set your computer to automatically download and install updates. Double check your system tray to make sure you have installed the latest updates or run Windows update.
- Be careful of what you click on. Windows will usually prompt you before running files that are potentially harmful. Make sure you know what you are opening and take some time reading those warning boxes before clicking on any buttons.
The tips above are not exhaustive but, it is a good start.
